Chinese Tea Culture

Chinese Tea culture is also one of the main Chinese Culture which refers to how tea is prepared as well as the ways to consume tea in China.


China is the homeland of tea. Chinese began to have tea –shrubs as early as 5000-6000 years ago, and human cultivation of tea plants was from 2000 years ago. The words for tea leaves or tea as a drink in many countries are derivatives from Chinese character “cha”.


Tea can be mainly classified into Three Types according to the method of processing the tea: Green Tea, Black Tea and Oolong Tea.


The oldest and the most popular is Green Tea. The most famous green tea is Longjing (Dragon Well) Tea near the West Lake in Hangzhou. Huangshan Maofeng Tea from Yellow Mountain.


Black Tea is favored mainly among foreigners. Different from green tea, it is the fermented tea. The most famous black tea s in China are “Qi Hong” originated in Anhui Province, “Dian Hong” originated in Yunnan Province.


Oolong tea, which combines the freshness of green tea and the fragrance of black tea, is also popular for tis medical benefits, including assisting the body building process and in dieting. Fujian, Guangdong and Taiwan Province s are the major producers.
