Why we suggest this tour itinerary?

Hangzhou, "a Paradise City for Tourists", is located only around 200 kilometers southwest of Shanghai and at the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (the longest and oldest canal in the world). It is one of Seven Ancient National Capitals in China and one of the Must Visit Cities for foreign tourists to China. Now it is the capital of Zhejiang Province in East China. It is very famous for its picturesque West Lake (the UNESCO World Heritage). It also boasts the Buddhist sacred land of China and the home of Chinese tea and silk culture. Unavoidably, Hangzhou is also an important city for elite culture. Centering on West Lake, a large number of top scenic spots and cultural heritage sites represent the best aspect of tourism in Hangzhou. In China, Hangzhou is commonly known as "the Paradise on Earth".

The West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou, comprising the West Lake and the hills surrounding its three sides, has inspired famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th century. It comprises numerous temples, pagodas, pavilions, gardens and ornamental trees, as well as causeways and artificial islands.

These additions have been made to improve the landscape west of the city of Hangzhou to the south of the Yangtze River.

The West Lake has influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuries and bears an exceptional testimony to the cultural tradition of improving landscapes to create a series of vistas reflecting an idealized fusion between humans and nature.

More Info about Hangzhou:

When Marco Polo came to Hangzhou in the 13th century, he declared it to be the most beautiful and elegant city in the world". There is a popular saying: "Above there is heaven, below there are Hangzhou and Suzhou." Hangzhous "heavenly" beauty attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists to its exquisite West Lake (Xi Hu) area each year to enjoy the placid lake, beautiful gardens, reflecting pools, lavish temples and lakeside teahouses.

Hangzhou began to prosper and flourish in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). It was the capital of the Wu and Yue States in the 10th Century during the Five Dynasties Period, and had its political heyday in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), when it served as the capital of China. Hangzhou witnessed a commercial boom in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) Dynasties, which is continuing at present.

There are many well-known historical and cultural sites in the areas around West Lake. Examples are the Lingyin Temple and Six Harmonies Pagoda. Hangzhou is also well known for its silk and tea. A trip to Hangzhou can be easily combined with a visit to a tea plantation in the hills near the West Lake.

Hangzhou West Lake Cultural Landscape was listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site on June 24, 2011 during the the 35th World Heritage Conference held in Paris.

It is a delight experience to explore enchanting Hangzhou - "paradise under the heaven". To tour in Hangzhou is just like stepping into a traditional Chinese watercolor painting. The willow-lined West Lake, the ancient pagodas and temples, cloud-shrouded hills inspired many poets and painter, all come with unique legends and stories.

Day 1
One Day Tour To Hangzhou
Dining:Not included in the quotation
Accommodation:No

At around 7am, your private guide and driver will meet you at your address in Shanghai to escort you to Hangzhou. It will take around 3 hours on the way.

The exciting sightseeing in Hangzhou today will begin with the visit to the One of the oldest (build in 328 AD) and the largest Zen Sect Buddhist Temples in China - the Soul Retreat Temple and Peak Flying from afar in the front of this temple. Soul Retreat Temple was firstly founded in 328 AD and is a Buddhist temple of the Zen Sect located north-west of Hangzhou. It is one of the largest and wealthiest Buddhist temples in China. The Peak Flying from Afar is so-named because it is made of limestone, giving it a craggy appearance very different from the surrounding mountains. Legend holds that the peak was originally from India, but flew to Hangzhou overnight as a demonstration of the omnipotence of Buddhist law. The Hill contains pagodas and Buddhist grottoes, numerous religious rock carvings made since 1000 years ago.

You will take lunch at downtown and take a walk on the ancient Qinghefang Steet and Zhongshan Street (the former royal street), pay a visit to an ancient Chinese herb pharmacy - Huqingyu Tang.

Afterwards, you will get to West Lake to walk on the Bai Causeway, passing “Lingering Snows on Broken Bridge” (the bridge and pavilion at the east end of Bai Causeway), “The Autumn Moon on the Calm Lake” – the small lake side garden with a spacious platform, grand building, pavilions and bridges, here it is commonly regarded as the best place to enjoy the West Lake. You will take a boat near the Solitary Hill to get to the biggest island – Three Pools Mirroring Moon.

The last place to enjoy in Hangzhou is Streams and 18 Gullies, Longjin (Dragon Well) Tea Village. Nine Creeks and Eighteen Gullies area is a picturesque valley of tea plantation with high mountains, lush forests and wandering routes. A stream running across the path in the valley many times forms an enchanting scenery. The end of the path is the Longjing Tea Village with many tea houses. The walk at it not only brings you through the enchanted land of tea - it leads you scampering through a stream, 9 times over. And if you head out on a warm summer day, you may not want to leave. Along this picturesque valley, you can arrive at the Longjin Tea Village (The Dragon Tea Village) which is everything youd hope to find in search of an authentic Chinese tea drinking experience.

When day draws to an end, you will leave Hangzhou and back to Shanghai.

More Info about West Lake & the Dragon Well Tea:

West Lake: Although there are dozens of other sites known as West Lake, the West Lake in Hangzhou is the most famous west lake in Chna. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides.. Gu Shan (Solitary Hill) is the largest natural island in the lake. Meanwhile Three Pools Mirroring Moon is the largest artificial island. The Su & Bai Causeways run across the lake. Three small man-made islands, Three Pools Mirroring Moon or Xiaoyingzhou (Little Fairyland), Huxinting (Middle Lake Pavilion), and Ruangongdun (Mr. Ruans Mound) lie in the center of West Lake.  West Lake is not only famous for its picturesque landscape, it is also associated with many scholars, national heroes, and martyrs of the Communist Revolution, thus embracing many aspects of Chinese culture. In addition, many ancient buildings, stone caves and engraved tablets in surrounding areas are among the most cherished national treasures of China, with significant artistic value.

West Lake Dragon Well Tea

Hangzhou is one of the birthplaces of Chinese green tea. The tea grows here is named Xihu Longjing Tea - West Lake Dragon Well Tea. This Tea is listed among the top 10 types of green tea in China. But where exactly is this tea grown? The sought-after tea is actually grown in villages in the deep mountains where are a little far from the lake. According to one government report, the area contains 95,500 mu (or 63 sq. km) of land with crops grown on it, a portion of that being tea.

The Longjing portion of the name means "Dragon Well" and refers to an actual well to the west of West Lake near a small village called Longjing. This picturesque village runs on an economy consisting of tourism and tea. You can walk the streets in Longjing and smell the aroma of freshly-picked tea leaves being pan-fired, sometimes right on the sidewalk. You can get into the village through the charming 9 Streams and 18 Gullies.
