      Shanghu Lake

It is well reputed for Jiang Shang (also called Jiang Ziya) in the end of the Shang Dynasty (1675 B.C. - 1029 B.C.), who lived in seclusion and angled for fish to evade King Zhou’s tyranny. He once stayed here when he met Zhong Yong, pioneer of the Wu culture and the king of this area. The water area is over 792 ha. Its water quality reaches the national drinking water quality standard (Class II) all year round. The wetland is distributed throughout the lake, being a unique landscape of “lake in the island and island in the lake”. This lake is a national AAAAA tourist attraction (highest rating in China), urban wetland park and best ecological leisure lake among top 10 charming lakes in China.

As the Key Historical Site under the State Protection, Yan Garden was built in the middle of Qing Dynasty, around 250 years ago. Occupying an area of 2600 s.m. showing the typical characteristics of the classical gardens in Qing Dynasty, many of the original features of the garden have been preserved, the garden has a high historical and artistic value. The rockery in this typical privately owned garden is a master piece which is made by Mr.Yuliang Ge, one of the most famous rockery experts in ancient China.

      Zeng Garden and Zhao Garden
They were built in the late Qing Dynasty (around 130-150 years ago). Both of them features the traditional Chinese garden arts - some well designed elegant buildings scattered around a charming lake, meanderings go through rockeries and trees. Especially these gardens borrow the scenery from a distance - the Yu Mountain into the gardens, make the garden felt much larger than it is.

      Square Pagoda Park
This Chinese classical garden style park was built in 1999 and expanded in 2002 on the site of the ancient temple around 900 years ago. There are three treasures built or planted in Song dynasty (960-1279), Square Pagoda, ancient well and ancient Ginkgo tree, in it. Being the landmark of Changshu city for hundreds of years, the style of the pagoda is in the typical Tang dynasty style – square style. It is also one of the oldest wooden buildings in China. The garden style and buildings in the park are also in the Song dynasty style.
