Why we suggest this tour itinerary?

We specially designed this 3 days tour itinerary to visit 2 most beautiful cities to the south of Shanghai - Hangzhou and Shaoxing. Both of them are not far from Shanghai. Hangzhou is one of the most Must Visit Cities for foreign tourists to China. It is very famous for its picturesque West Lake (UNESCO World Heritage). It also boasts the Buddhist sacred land of China and the home of Chinese tea and silk culture. Unavoidably, Hangzhou is also an important city for elite culture. Centering on West Lake, a large number of top scenic spots and cultural heritage sites represent the best aspect of tourism in Hangzhou. In China, Hangzhou is commonly known as "the Paradise on Earth".

Shaoxing, although not as famous to foreign tourists as Hangzhou and Suzhou, it is one of the oldest cities and most important political centers in the south of Yangtze River and one of the cradles of Chinese civilization. Because of the good protection of the environment, Shaoxing has got UN’s award of the World’s Best Living Place. It is renowned as the city of water, bridges, old wines and calligraphy - the blend of natural landscape, ancient city view and splendid charming culture with the local feature. As a traditional tourist destination, Shaoxing emphasizes the maintaince and construction of travel infrastructure. The typical attractions are represented by Dayu Mausoleum (The leader of the tribes union who dominate whole China around 4000 years ago), Former Residence of Lu Xun (One of the best authors in modern China and he is even one of the name cards of Chinese literature.) and the well protect ancient Shaoxing City, Lanting (Orchid Pavilion), the sacred place for Chinese calligraphy. You’ll see odd foreign tourist groups there. They are the ideal places for the people wane to escape from the busy metropolis.

Hangzhou:

Hangzhou, a Paradise City for Tourists”, is located only around 200 kilometers southwest of Shanghai and at the southern end of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (the longest and oldest canal in the world). It is one of Seven Ancient National Capitals in China and one of the Must Visit Cities for foreign tourists to China. Now it is the capital of Zhejiang Province in East China. It is very famous for its picturesque West Lake (the UNESCO World Heritage).

The West Lake Cultural Landscape of Hangzhou, comprising the West Lake and the hills surrounding its three sides, has inspired famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th century. It comprises numerous temples, pagodas, pavilions, gardens and ornamental trees, as well as causeways and artificial islands.

These additions have been made to improve the landscape west of the city of Hangzhou to the south of the Yangtze River.

The West Lake has influenced garden design in the rest of China as well as Japan and Korea over the centuries and bears an exceptional testimony to the cultural tradition of improving landscapes to create a series of vistas reflecting an idealized fusion between humans and nature.

Although there are dozens of other sites known as West Lake, the West Lake in Hangzhou is the most famous west lake in China. It is surrounded by mountains on three sides.. Gu Shan (Solitary Hill) is the largest natural island in the lake. Meanwhile Three Pools Mirroring Moon is the largest artificial island. The Su & Bai Causeways run across the lake. Three small man-made islands, Three Pools Mirroring Moon or Xiaoyingzhou (Little Fairyland), Huxinting (Middle Lake Pavilion), and Ruangongdun (Mr. Ruans Mound) lie in the center of West Lake. West Lake is not only famous for its picturesque landscape, it is also associated with many scholars, national heroes, and martyrs of the Communist Revolution, thus embracing many aspects of Chinese culture. In addition, many ancient buildings, stone caves and engraved tablets in surrounding areas are among the most cherished national treasures of China, with significant artistic value.

West Lake Dragon Well Tea

Hangzhou is one of the birthplaces of Chinese green tea. The tea grows here is named Xihu Longjing Tea - West Lake Dragon Well Tea. This Tea is listed among the top 10 types of green tea in China. But where exactly is this tea grown? The sought-after tea is actually grown in villages in the deep mountains where are a little far from the lake. According to one government report, the area contains 95,500 mu (or 63 sq. km) of land with crops grown on it, a portion of that being tea.

The Longjing portion of the name means "Dragon Well" and refers to an actual well to the west of West Lake near a small village called Longjing. This picturesque village runs on an economy consisting of tourism and tea. You can walk the streets in Longjing and smell the aroma of freshly-picked tea leaves being pan-fired, sometimes right on the sidewalk. You can get into the village through the charming 9 Streams and 18 Gullies.
